ReefOffice is built on open-source software and runs in the real world, on a real planet. So we pledge 5% of our revenue back: 2% to environmental causes and 3% to the open-source maintainers our product depends on.

How it works
A pledge you can check
We keep this simple and honest, so it is a real commitment and not just a logo.
We measure it
The 5% is calculated on actual revenue (net of refunds and platform fees), not on profit or an aspirational number.
We choose recipients
The open-source share goes first to the projects we ship to clients; the planet share goes to reputable environmental organisations.
We give
Open-source funding flows through GitHub Sponsors and project foundations; environmental giving through registered non-profits.
We report it
Once ReefOffice has paying customers, we publish what we gave and to whom, at least once a year.
Why
The reef only stays healthy if we feed it
Two reasons, both literal and true to the name.
Built on open source
Almost everything ReefOffice runs is maintained by volunteers and small teams. Charging for a managed product built on their work, without funding it back, is not sustainable — for them or for us.
A healthy reef needs a healthy planet
The reef in our name is not just a metaphor. Real reefs are among the first ecosystems lost to a warming ocean, so supporting environmental causes is part of taking the name seriously.
Sustainability beyond one company
Funding the ecosystem makes the tools we depend on more likely to outlive any single company — including ours.
Questions about the pledge
Is this the same as '1% for the Planet'?
No. '1% for the Planet' is a separate, trademarked membership organisation, and we are not members of it. Our pledge is our own: 2% of revenue to environmental causes, given directly.
Is it 5% of profit or revenue?
Revenue. We calculate 5% on actual revenue (net of refunds and platform fees), which is a stronger commitment than a share of profit that could be zero.
Which open-source projects get the 3%?
First, the projects ReefOffice ships to clients — Nextcloud, Grist, Dolibarr, Paperless, Vaultwarden, Ollama and others — through GitHub Sponsors and their foundations, plus other infrastructure we rely on. See [the full list on our source page](https://reefoffice.com/source).
Is this active today?
The pledge is a commitment from our first revenue. As a newly launched micro-business we start giving as soon as there is revenue to give, and publish the results once there is a full year to report.
This pledge starts with ReefOffice's first revenue and will be reported transparently each year.
